Somos la guerra (We are the war)

Chapter II from Tríptico de la Prosperidad (Triptych of Prosperity)

Somos la guerra (We are the war) is a broken work, like the waters that break announcing childbirth, like the first words of the world, immediately wet with tears and sweat. War is always anonymous, domestic and everyday. The war of labour, the violence of childbirth, of crying. Life as an ordeal. Those who work, give birth or pray live with the hope of prosperity to come: riches, offspring, salvation… to create, to raise, to believe. In Somos la guerra (We are the war), the discourse is purely intuitive, inspired by anecdotes, images and specific references from my life. Electronic music, the influence of folklore, of the Marian images venerated in my land, Andalusia. The desire to dance rather than to perform dance, what the dancing body evokes or the impact on my body of the birth of my daughter: the annunciation, which implies hope, and her early years. The need to face the project of domesticating human civilization. These are feelings that I have not tried to rationalise or resolve, but which have to do, above all, with the vitality and power that bodies achieve while bearing the weight of the world”. (Luz Arcas)
